Central difference

Summary

The central difference of a function ff with step hh is δhf(x)=f(x+h2)−f(x−h2)\delta_h f(x) = f(x + \tfrac{h}{2}) - f(x - \tfrac{h}{2}). It is symmetric around the point xx. For a smooth function, the quotient δhf(x)/h\delta_h f(x) / h approximates f′(x)f'(x) with an error of order h2h^2, better than the order hh of the one-sided quotients.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
