Integral equations Theoretical approximation of solutions Concept

Collectively compact operator approximation

Summary

A sequence of operators KnK_n is a collectively compact approximation of an operator KK if Kn→KK_n \to K pointwise. In addition, the images of the unit ball under all KnK_n together must form a relatively compact set. This weaker notion replaces norm convergence, which often fails for numerical methods such as the Nyström method. It still gives the main conclusion when I−KI - K is invertible. Then I−KnI - K_n is invertible for large nn, with uniformly bounded inverses, and the approximate solutions converge. The theory was developed by P. M. Anselone for the numerical solution of integral equations.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
