Distinguished triangle

Summary

A distinguished triangle is a sequence X→Y→Z→X[1]X \to Y \to Z \to X[1] of morphisms in a triangulated category that belongs to the chosen class of exact triangles. It is the analogue of a short exact sequence: ZZ plays the role of a cokernel of X→YX \to Y, and X[1]X[1] records the connecting map. In the derived category, every short exact sequence of complexes gives a distinguished triangle. In the homotopy category of chain complexes the standard example is built from the mapping cone.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
