Feigenbaum–Cvitanović functional equation

Summary

The Feigenbaum–Cvitanović functional equation is g(x)=−α g(g(x/α))g(x) = -\alpha \, g(g(x/\alpha)), for an even function gg with g(0)=1g(0) = 1 and a constant α\alpha. Its solution is the fixed point of the renormalization operator that doubles the period of a unimodal map and rescales space. The constant α\alpha that comes with the solution is the second of the Feigenbaum constants, α≈2.5029\alpha \approx 2.5029. The equation explains why the period-doubling cascade looks the same at every scale, for a large class of maps.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
