Grothendieck construction

Summary

A functor Fโ€‰โฃ:๐’žโ†’๐‚๐š๐ญF \colon \mathcal{C} \to \mathbf{Cat} assigns a category to each object of ๐’ž\mathcal{C}. The Grothendieck construction turns FF into a single category โˆซF\int F with a projection functor to ๐’ž\mathcal{C}. It glues the categories F(c)F(c) together along the functors F(f)F(f). It is the bridge between functors into ๐‚๐š๐ญ\mathbf{Cat} and categories fibred over ๐’ž\mathcal{C}. It contains the category of elements of a set-valued functor as a special case.

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
