Summary
An interpretation of a variety in a variety translates each basic operation of into a term of . The translation must turn every algebra of into an algebra of on the same set. Interpretations order varieties by strength: if is interpretable in , then is at least as rich as . Suppose is interpretable in and has terms that satisfy some identities. Then the translated terms of satisfy the same identities, so such properties pass from to .
