Lieb–Liniger integral equation
Example
Consider the Lieb–Liniger model of bosons on a line with delta interaction of strength , in units with . In the thermodynamic limit its ground state is described by a density of quasi-momenta on an interval , with . This density solves The particle density and the ground state energy per length are and .
The equation is a Fredholm equation of the second kind on with the continuous difference kernel . This kernel is positive and . So for each the integral of the kernel over the bounded interval is strictly less than . By continuity and compactness, its maximum over is some . Hence the integral operator has norm on with the supremum norm. Then the Liouville–Neumann series converges to the unique continuous solution, which is positive.
Remarks
In the limit the kernel tends to uniformly on , so . Then and , the energy of free fermions with the same density.
