Numerical analysis Time-dependent partial differential equations Concept
Method of lines
Summary
The method of lines solves a time-dependent partial differential equation in two stages. First only the space variables are discretised, by finite differences, finite volumes or finite elements. This turns the equation into a large system of ordinary differential equations in time. Then this system is solved with a numerical method for initial value problems. This separation lets one reuse mature ODE solvers, with their error control and their methods for stiff problems.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
