Natural boundary condition

Summary

A natural boundary condition is a boundary condition that a minimiser satisfies automatically at an end where no value is prescribed. For J(y)=∫abL(x,y,y′) dxJ(y) = \int_a^b L(x, y, y') \, dx with y(b)y(b) free, it reads Lp=0L_p = 0 at x=bx = b. It comes from the first variation, not from the statement of the problem. For the Dirichlet energy in several variables, it is the Neumann boundary condition.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
