Additive function
Builds on Abelian groupFunction
Definition
Let and be abelian groups, written additively. A function is additive if The most common case is .
Remarks
Example: , , is additive, since .
Non-example: is not additive, since while .
Every additive function satisfies , and for . Between real vector spaces, an additive function satisfies for every rational , so it is -linear. For arbitrary groups, the same condition defines a group homomorphism.
