Definition

A Huber ring is a topological ring AA with an open subring A0A_0 and a finitely generated ideal II of A0A_0. The topology of A0A_0 must be the II-adic topology. An element aa of AA is power-bounded if the set {an:n≥1}\set{a^n : n \ge 1} is bounded, and A∘A^{\circ} denotes the subring of power-bounded elements. A Huber pair (A,A+)(A, A^+) is a Huber ring AA with an open subring A+⊆A∘A^+ \subseteq A^{\circ} that is integrally closed in AA.

A valuation on AA is a map v ⁣:A→Γ∪{0}v \colon A \to \Gamma \cup \set{0}, where Γ\Gamma is a totally ordered abelian group written multiplicatively, with v(0)=0v(0) = 0, v(1)=1v(1) = 1, v(ab)=v(a)v(b)v(ab) = v(a) v(b) and v(a+b)≤max⁡(v(a),v(b))v(a + b) \le \max(v(a), v(b)). It is continuous if {a∈A:v(a)<γ}\set{a \in A : v(a) < \gamma} is open for every γ\gamma in the value group of vv. The adic spectrum Spa⁡(A,A+)\operatorname{Spa}(A, A^+) is the set of equivalence classes of continuous valuations vv on AA with v(f)≤1v(f) \le 1 for all f∈A+f \in A^+. Its topology is generated by the rational subsets U ⁣(f1,…,fng)={v:v(fi)≤v(g)≠0 for i=1,…,n},U\!\left(\tfrac{f_1, \dots, f_n}{g}\right) = \set{v : v(f_i) \le v(g) \ne 0 \text{ for } i = 1, \dots, n}, where f1,…,fnf_1, \dots, f_n generate an open ideal of AA. It carries a structure presheaf 𝒪\mathcal{O} of complete topological rings, built from completions of the localizations A[1/g]A[1/g].

An adic space is a triple (X,𝒪X,(vx)x∈X)(X, \mathcal{O}_X, (v_x)_{x \in X}) such that:

  1. XX is a topological space and 𝒪X\mathcal{O}_X is a sheaf of complete topological rings on XX;
  2. for each x∈Xx \in X, vxv_x is an equivalence class of valuations on the stalk 𝒪X,x\mathcal{O}_{X,x};
  3. every point has an open neighbourhood isomorphic, with these structures, to Spa⁡(A,A+)\operatorname{Spa}(A, A^+) for a Huber pair whose structure presheaf is a sheaf.

Remarks

Example: Spa⁡(ℚp,ℤp)\operatorname{Spa}(\Q_p, \Z_p) is a single point. The pp-adic valuation is continuous and bounded by 11 on ℤp\Z_p. The trivial valuation, with v(a)=1v(a) = 1 for a≠0a \ne 0, is not continuous, since {a:v(a)<1}={0}\set{a : v(a) < 1} = \set{0} is not open in ℚp\Q_p. Other valuations of ℚp\Q_p bounded on ℤp\Z_p are equivalent to one of these two.

Non-example of a Huber ring: ℝ\R with its usual topology. An open subring contains an interval (−ε,ε)(-\varepsilon, \varepsilon), which generates ℝ\R as an additive group, so the only open subring is ℝ\R. Its topology is neither discrete nor indiscrete, so it is not the II-adic topology for any ideal II of ℝ\R.

The structure presheaf of Spa⁡(A,A+)\operatorname{Spa}(A, A^+) need not be a sheaf in general; this is why clause 3 asks for it. Huber proved that it is a sheaf when, for example, AA is a strongly Noetherian Tate ring, which covers the affinoid algebras of rigid geometry.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
