Adjoint integral equation

Summary

Let an integral equation of the second kind have kernel K(x,s)K(x, s) and parameter λ\lambda. Its adjoint is the equation of the same kind with the kernel K(s,x)‾\overline{K(s, x)} and the parameter λˉ\bar\lambda. Its integral operator is the adjoint of the original integral operator for the L2L^2 inner product. The Fredholm alternative uses it: the original equation is solvable exactly when its right side is orthogonal to the solutions of the homogeneous adjoint equation. For a real kernel the adjoint kernel is the transposed kernel K(s,x)K(s, x).

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
