Builds on Unilateral Z-transformZ-transform

Definition

Let f ⁣:[0,∞)→ℂf \colon [0, \infty) \to \C be a function, let T>0T > 0 be a sampling period, and let mm be a real number with 0≤m≤T0 \le m \le T. The advanced Z-transform of ff is F(z,m)=∑k=0∞f(kT+m) z−k,F(z, m) = \sum_{k = 0}^{\infty} f(kT + m) \, z^{-k}, for the complex zz where the series converges absolutely. So F(⋅,m)F(\cdot, m) is the unilateral Z-transform of the sequence (f(kT+m))k≥0(f(kT + m))_{k \ge 0}.

Remarks

For m=0m = 0 it is the ordinary Z-transform of the samples f(kT)f(kT). Example: for f(t)=e−atf(t) = e^{-at} with a∈ℂa \in \C, F(z,m)=e−am∑k≥0(e−aTz−1)k=e−am z/(z−e−aT)F(z, m) = e^{-am} \sum_{k \ge 0} (e^{-aT} z^{-1})^k = e^{-am} \, z/(z - e^{-aT}) for ∣z∣>∣e−aT∣\abs{z} > \abs{e^{-aT}}. For f(t)=tf(t) = t, F(z,m)=∑k≥0(kT+m)z−k=Tz/(z−1)2+mz/(z−1)F(z, m) = \sum_{k \ge 0} (kT + m) z^{-k} = Tz/(z - 1)^2 + m z/(z - 1) for ∣z∣>1\abs{z} > 1. Non-example: the sum ∑kf(kT+m)z−k\sum_k f(k T + m) z^{-k} with mm outside [0,T][0, T] is not covered; for m=Tm = T it is not a new transform either, since F(z,T)=z(F(z,0)−f(0))F(z, T) = z (F(z, 0) - f(0)). Some texts call a closely related transform, with a delay parameter in place of the advance, the modified Z-transform.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
