Asymptotic scale

Summary

An asymptotic scale, also called an asymptotic sequence, is a sequence of functions φ0,φ1,…\varphi_0, \varphi_1, \dots near a point x0x_0. Each function in it is negligible compared with the one before it. It is the system of reference functions in which asymptotic expansions are written. The most common scale is the powers x−nx^{-n} as x→∞x \to \infty, but scales with logarithms, fractional powers or exponentials are also needed. Fixing a scale makes the coefficients of an expansion unique.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
