Asymptotic scale
Builds on Little o notation
Definition
Let be a subset of or of and let be a limit point of , possibly . An asymptotic scale (or asymptotic sequence) at is a sequence of functions such that:
- each has no zero in for some punctured neighbourhood of ;
- for each , as in , in little o notation.
Remarks
Example: on at a finite . These have no zero for , and .
Mixed scales such as at are also asymptotic scales.
Non-example: is not an asymptotic scale at , since does not tend to there; it is a scale at .
Non-example: at on fails clause 1, since every has zeros at for all large .
Some authors drop clause 1 and write the condition 2 as in the sense of an inequality near .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
