Definition
Let be a domain, and let be the Lebesgue space of square-integrable functions for Lebesgue measure . Let be the Bergman space of holomorphic functions in , which is a closed subspace. The Bergman projection of is the orthogonal projection It is given by where is the Bergman kernel of .
Remarks
The integral formula follows from the reproducing property: for , , since and is orthogonal to . Example: on the unit disc, the functions , , form an orthogonal basis of , and for every , so . Similarly , since and , and is orthogonal to for . Non-example: the orthogonal projection of onto the harmonic functions in is a different operator, the harmonic Bergman projection; on the unit disc it fixes . is self-adjoint, , and when . On smoothly bounded strongly pseudoconvex domains, maps into itself.
