Bloch–Wigner function
Builds on DilogarithmComplex logarithm
Definition
Let be the dilogarithm, taken as its principal branch on . For , let be the principal argument of , as for the complex logarithm. The Bloch–Wigner function is extended to all of by continuity, with .
Remarks
The function is real-analytic on and continuous on . Across the term jumps by at the point , and the term jumps by , so the extension is well defined.
Example: for one has , so , the Clausen function. In particular .
Non-example: the function alone does not extend continuously across , because of the jump described above.
Symmetries: , and For , is the hyperbolic volume of the ideal tetrahedron with vertices .
