Bohr almost periodic function
Builds on Continuous function
Definition
Let be a continuous function. For , a number is an -almost period of if A set is relatively dense if there is such that every closed interval of length contains a point of . The function is Bohr almost periodic if for every the set of -almost periods of is relatively dense.
Remarks
Every Bohr almost periodic function is bounded and uniformly continuous. Bochner proved that is Bohr almost periodic if and only if every sequence of translates of has a uniformly convergent subsequence. So the definition agrees with the general almost periodic function on the group .
Example: let be continuous with period . Every multiple , , satisfies , so it is an -almost period for every . Every closed interval of length contains a multiple of , so is Bohr almost periodic.
Non-example: is continuous, but not Bohr almost periodic. For the difference is largest at , where it equals , and the case is symmetric. So for the -almost periods are the with . This set is bounded, hence not relatively dense.
