Canonical correlation

Definition
Let be a random vector in and a random vector in , with finite second moments. Assume that the covariance matrices and are positive definite, and let . Let . For , the -th pair of canonical variates is defined inductively: and maximise the correlation under these constraints:
- ;
- for all ;
- for all .
The maximal value is the -th canonical correlation.
Remarks
One has . The numbers are the largest eigenvalues of . Example: for , the only canonical correlation is , attained with chosen with the sign of the covariance. Non-example: for with and independent of , the pair gives correlation , which is not maximal, since gives correlation . The sample version replaces the covariance matrices by sample covariance matrices.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
