Definition

Let ABCABC be a triangle in the Euclidean plane ℝ2\mathbb{R}^2, with circumcentre OO and circumradius R=d(O,A)R = d(O, A), where dd is the Euclidean distance. The circumcircle of ABCABC is the circle with the centre OO and the radius RR: { X∈ℝ2  :  d(X,O)=R }.\{\, X \in \mathbb{R}^2 \;:\; d(X, O) = R \,\}. It is the unique circle that contains AA, BB and CC.

Remarks

For a triangle in ℝn\mathbb{R}^n, the circumcircle is the circle in the plane of the triangle with the centre OO and the radius RR. Mathlib's Affine.Simplex.circumsphere is the sphere with this centre and radius in the ambient space. The law of sines gives 2R=a/sin⁡α2R = a / \sin \alpha, with the side aa opposite the angle α\alpha. A polygon whose vertices all lie on one circle is a cyclic polygon. Each triangle is cyclic, but not each quadrilateral is.

What this page needs for W2

  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
