Clausen function
Builds on Natural logarithmFourier series
Definition
The Clausen function is the function given by where is the natural logarithm. The integral converges for every real , because the logarithmic singularities of the integrand at the points of are integrable.
Remarks
Equivalently, is the sum of the uniformly convergent Fourier series and , where is the dilogarithm. The function is odd and -periodic, and it vanishes at every multiple of .
Example: at , is for even and for , so , Catalan's constant. Its maximum on is .
Non-example: the series is not the Clausen function; it is the real part of , which equals for .
Higher Clausen functions are defined from in a similar way.
