Definition

Let d≥1d \ge 1 and let D⊆ℝdD \subseteq \R^d be a domain. Let ptD(x,y)p^D_t(x, y) be the transition density of Brownian motion in ℝd\R^d killed on leaving DD. Let h ⁣:D→(0,∞)h \colon D \to (0, \infty) be a positive harmonic function on DD. The h-conditioned Brownian motion in DD is the Doob h-transform of killed Brownian motion by hh. It is the Markov process on DD with transition densities pth(x,y)=h(y)h(x) ptD(x,y),t>0, x,y∈D.p^h_t(x, y) = \frac{h(y)}{h(x)} \, p^D_t(x, y), \qquad t > 0, \ x, y \in D.

Remarks

A positive harmonic function on DD is excessive for killed Brownian motion, so the h-transform is defined; the h-process may have a finite lifetime. Example: D=(0,∞)D = (0, \infty) and h(x)=xh(x) = x. Here hh is positive and harmonic, and the h-process is the three-dimensional Bessel process: Brownian motion conditioned never to hit 00. Example: for the unit disc and h(z)=(1−∣z∣2)/∣ζ−z∣2h(z) = (1 - \abs{z}^2)/\abs{\zeta - z}^2, the Poisson kernel with pole at ζ\zeta on the unit circle, the h-process is Brownian motion conditioned to exit the disc at ζ\zeta. Non-example: h(x)=xh(x) = x on D=ℝD = \R is harmonic but takes negative values, so the formula does not give a family of positive kernels. More generally, conditioning to exit at a point of the Martin boundary uses the minimal harmonic function with pole at that point.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
