Conformal geometric algebra
Builds on Geometric algebra
Definition
Let , and let , where has the dot product, , , and the three summands are pairwise orthogonal. Put and . The conformal geometric algebra of is the geometric algebra , together with the embedding
Remarks
From one gets and . Hence , so points become null vectors, and . Example: for and , put with the image of . Since , one gets , which vanishes exactly when lies on the sphere with centre and radius . Likewise, for a unit vector and , the vector satisfies , and it represents the plane . Non-example: the vector is not the image of a point, since . The versors of the algebra, the products of invertible vectors, act on by conjugation, up to sign. They induce exactly the Möbius transformations of , the maps generated by translations, rotations, dilations and inversions in spheres.
