Constructible number
Builds on Straightedge and compass construction
Definition
Identify the plane with . A complex number is constructible if the point can be obtained from and by finitely many straightedge and compass steps. In each step, one adds an intersection point of two distinct lines or circles drawn through, or centred at, points already obtained.
Remarks
A real number is constructible if and only if a segment of length can be constructed from a segment of length . A complex number is constructible if and only if and are constructible. The constructible numbers form a field closed under square roots. The numbers , and are constructible. The numbers and are not.

What this page needs for W2
- edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
- edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
