Convex integrand

Summary

A convex integrand is a Lagrangian L(x,u,ξ)L(x, u, \xi) of an integral functional ∫ΩL(x,u,∇u) dx\int_\Omega L(x, u, \nabla u) \, dx that is a convex function of the gradient variable ξ\xi. Convexity in ξ\xi is the hypothesis that makes such a functional weakly lower semicontinuous on Sobolev spaces, for scalar functions uu. It is therefore the basic structural assumption of existence theorems such as Tonelli's. For vector-valued uu it can be weakened to quasiconvexity.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
