Convex join
Definition
Let be a real vector space and let . The convex join of and is the set where is the line segment from to .
Remarks
Example: in , let and . The join is the union of the segments from the origin to the points with , which is the closed triangle with vertices , and .
If and are nonempty convex sets, then equals the convex hull of . Indeed, a convex combination of points of can be regrouped as with and .
Non-example of that identity: if and , then , while the convex hull of is . So the nonemptiness hypothesis cannot be dropped.
