Coupled map lattice
Builds on Dynamical systemIterated function
Definition
Let , let be a map, and let be a coupling strength. Index the sites by . The diffusively coupled map lattice with local map is the discrete-time dynamical system on given by , where
Remarks
The sites form a ring, which is the usual periodic boundary condition; the same rule makes sense on or on higher-dimensional lattices, with the average over all nearest neighbours. More general coupled map lattices allow other local maps and other coupling rules.
Example: if , then , so each site evolves by iterating on its own. If all sites start equal, for all , then for all . So the spatially uniform states form an invariant set on which the lattice reduces to the single map .
Non-example: a cellular automaton has the same discrete space and time. But its states take values in a finite set, not in , so it is not a coupled map lattice.
A common choice is the logistic map or the quadratic map , with and the parameter of as the two control parameters.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
