Design of experiments
Builds on Statistical model
Definition
Let be a finite set of treatments and let be a finite set of experimental units. An experimental design for on is a map , which assigns treatment to unit . The number is the replication of treatment . After the treatments are applied, a response is observed on each unit. A statistical model relates to the treatment and to the unit . Design of experiments is the choice of , and , together with the plan of analysis, before the data are collected.
Remarks
Example: two diets and four animals . The map , , , is a design with .
Non-example: in an observational study the units choose their own treatments, for example smokers and non-smokers. The map is not chosen by the investigator, so this is not a designed experiment. Differences in response may then come from other differences between the groups.
For experiments with a quantitative input in a region , a design is a choice of the input values . In the approximate theory, it is a probability measure on with finite support.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
