Determinant line bundle
Definition
Let and be complex Hilbert spaces, and let be a topological space. Let be a map from to the Fredholm operators that is continuous in the operator norm. For a finite-dimensional space write , with . The determinant line of is The determinant line bundle is the set with the following topology. Near a point , choose a finite-dimensional subspace with for all near . Then the spaces form a vector bundle over a neighbourhood of . The exact sequence gives a canonical isomorphism . The right side is a line bundle near . The topology of is the one that makes these isomorphisms continuous, and it does not depend on the choice of .
Remarks
Some authors use the dual line ; the two conventions give dual line bundles.
Example: if every is invertible, then and , so each fibre is and is the trivial line bundle .
Non-example: the family on an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space, for , is not a family of Fredholm operators, since has infinite-dimensional kernel. So is not defined.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
