Digamma function
Builds on Gamma functionMeromorphic function
Definition
Let be the gamma function, viewed as a meromorphic function on with poles at and no zeros. The digamma function is the meromorphic function
Remarks
Example: from , taking logarithmic derivatives gives . With , where is the Euler–Mascheroni constant, this gives for every integer , where is the harmonic number. Another value is .
Non-example of a valid argument: is a pole of , so is not defined there. In fact has a simple pole with residue at each of .
The function has no other poles, because has no zeros.
