Dihedral quandle
Builds on Integers modulo nDihedral groupKnot
Example
Let and let be the integers modulo , with Then is a quandle, the dihedral quandle of order .
Check of the three axioms:
- Self-distributivity: and .
- For fixed and , the equation has the unique solution .
- Idempotence: .
The name comes from the dihedral group . Let be the reflection of . Then , so the operation of is conjugation of reflections. For odd the map is injective, and is the conjugacy class of reflections in with conjugation.
Remarks
Colourings of a knot diagram by are the Fox -colourings: at each crossing, the three arcs carry either one colour or three different colours.
The trefoil has colourings by , three of them constant, while the unknot has only the constant ones.
Since the number of colourings is a knot invariant, the trefoil is knotted.
In Mathlib this quandle is Quandle.Dihedral.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
