Divergent asymptotic series
Builds on Divergent seriesOptimal truncation
Example
For let Then, as , and this series is a divergent series for every .
Check of the expansion: for and , Integrating against and using gives So the error is for each , which is the condition of a Poincaré asymptotic series at .
Check of divergence: for the ratio of consecutive terms is , so the terms do not tend to .
Remarks
For a fixed small the terms first decrease and then grow, and the smallest one is near . Stopping there, which is optimal truncation, gives an error of order by Stirling's formula, which is extremely small for small . The function is the Borel sum of the series, and , where is the exponential integral.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
