Elastic net
Builds on LassoRidge regressionConvex function
Definition
Let be a real matrix, let , and let and . For write and let be the Euclidean norm. An elastic net estimate with parameters is a minimiser over of
Remarks
If , the objective is strictly convex and tends to infinity with , so the estimate exists and is unique. With it is a lasso estimate, and with it is the ridge regression estimate. A common parametrisation uses one level and a mixing weight , with penalty . Some authors multiply the estimate defined above by to undo part of the double shrinkage.
Example: assume and put . Then , and the problem splits into coordinates. Minimising gives So coefficients with are exactly zero, and the others are shrunk by both penalties.
Non-example: if and , no coefficient is set to zero unless , so no selection takes place; that is ridge regression.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
