Definition
Let be a signature and let and be -structures with domains and . An embedding of into is a map such that:
- is a homomorphism from to ;
- is injective;
- for each relation symbol of arity and all , if then .
Remarks
A map is an embedding if and only if its image is the domain of a substructure of and is an isomorphism from to . For a signature without relation symbols, clause 3 is empty, and an embedding is an injective homomorphism.
Example: for the signature , the inclusion is an embedding, because it is injective and respects sums, products, and .
Non-example: view graphs as structures with one binary relation. Let be the graph with vertices and no edge, and the graph with vertices and one edge between them. The identity map is an injective homomorphism from to but not an embedding, because clause 3 fails for the pair .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
