Euclidean distance
Builds on Euclidean spaceLength of a vector
Definition
Let be a positive integer, and let and be points of . The Euclidean distance between and is the real number where is the length of the vector .
Remarks
The function is a metric on . For all points , and : , if and only if , , and . For the formula is . Some applications use the squared distance , because it has no square root. The squared distance is not a metric, because it does not satisfy the triangle inequality.
