Flat norm
Builds on CurrentIntegral current
Definition
Let , and for a current on let be its mass. The flat norm of an -current on is with . The flat distance between -currents and is . For integral currents, the integral flat norm is defined in the same way with and required to be integral currents.
Remarks
Taking shows . If , then for every smooth compactly supported -form , so flat convergence implies weak convergence. When , there is a dual description of as the supremum of over the forms such that and have comass at most everywhere.
Example: in , let and , a -current. Then , so , and . Testing on a function with and , chosen with , shows that . So in the flat norm as , while its mass stays .
Non-example: the mass is a norm on currents of finite mass, but it is not the flat norm, as the example shows.
