Forward difference operator

Summary

The forward difference operator Δh\Delta_h sends a function ff to the function x↦f(x+h)−f(x)x \mapsto f(x + h) - f(x). It is the discrete analogue of differentiation, and difference equations are often written with it. It equals Eh−IE_h - I, where EhE_h is the shift operator and II is the identity.
