Fourier series of Bernoulli polynomials
Builds on Bernoulli polynomialsFourier coefficientRiemann zeta function
Example
Let be the -th Bernoulli polynomial, and let be an integer. Then for every , and the series converges absolutely and uniformly on . So the -periodic function equal to on has the Fourier coefficients at and at , for period .
Check of the coefficients: for , which gives the coefficient at . For , integration by parts with and for gives . For , , and induction gives . For the coefficients are summable and the periodic extension is continuous, so the series converges uniformly to it.
Remarks
Grouping and gives real forms; for with , At , where is the Bernoulli number , this is Euler's formula for the Riemann zeta function. For it gives , and for it gives . For the same series, , converges to only for ; at it gives , the midpoint of the jump.
