Fractional Fourier transform

Summary

The fractional Fourier transform is a family of unitary operators ℱα\mathcal{F}_\alpha on L2(ℝ)L^2(\R), indexed by an angle α\alpha. Here ℱ0\mathcal{F}_0 is the identity and ℱπ/2\mathcal{F}_{\pi/2} is the Fourier transform. The family is a group: ℱαℱβ=ℱα+β\mathcal{F}_\alpha \mathcal{F}_\beta = \mathcal{F}_{\alpha + \beta}, so the Fourier transform has a square root, a cube root, and so on. In the time-frequency plane, ℱα\mathcal{F}_\alpha acts as a rotation by the angle α\alpha. It is used in optics and signal processing to analyse chirps and other signals whose frequency changes in time.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
