Group von Neumann algebra

Summary

The group von Neumann algebra L(G)L(G) of a locally compact group GG is the von Neumann algebra generated by the left translation operators on L2(G)L^2(G). It is the weak closure of the group algebra acting on L2(G)L^2(G). For discrete groups it is a main source of examples of factors. When GG is a nontrivial discrete group in which every conjugacy class other than {e}\set{e} is infinite, L(G)L(G) is a factor of type II1\mathrm{II}_1.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
