Hammerstein integral equation

Summary

A Hammerstein integral equation has the form φ(x)=f(x)+∫Ωk(x,t) g(t,φ(t)) dt\varphi(x) = f(x) + \int_\Omega k(x, t)\, g(t, \varphi(t))\, dt: a linear kernel kk acts on a pointwise nonlinear function of the unknown. In operator form it is φ=f+KNgφ\varphi = f + K N_g \varphi, where KK is a linear integral operator and NgN_g is the Nemytskii operator of gg. It is a special case of the Urysohn equation. Its split structure lets one combine linear tools, such as spectral theory of KK, with monotone operators and fixed point theorems. Boundary value problems −u′′=g(x,u)-u'' = g(x, u) with Dirichlet conditions become Hammerstein equations with the Green's function as kernel.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
