Harish-Chandra character

Summary

The Harish-Chandra character extends the character of a representation to infinite-dimensional representations of reductive groups. The operators π(g)\pi(g) have no trace, but their averages ∫f(g)π(g) dg\int f(g) \pi(g) \, dg against smooth compactly supported functions ff do. The map f↦tr⁡π(f)f \mapsto \operatorname{tr} \pi(f) is a distribution on the group, the character of π\pi. It determines an irreducible admissible representation up to infinitesimal equivalence, and it is the basic tool of harmonic analysis on reductive groups.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
