Height of a poset
Builds on Partial orderChain
Definition
Let be a partially ordered set. The height of is the supremum of the cardinalities of the chains .
Remarks
Example: the subsets of ordered by inclusion have height , as shown by the chain . A chain of subsets has at most one subset of each size, so no chain is longer. Non-example: the set has elements but is not a chain, since and are incomparable. Conventions differ: some authors call the height the largest length of a chain , which is , one less than the number of elements. In that second convention the height is the Krull dimension of the poset. The height of an element is often defined as the height of the down-set , with the same choice of convention.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
