Integro-partial differential equation
Builds on Integro-differential equationPartial differential equation
Definition
Let and let be open. An integro-partial differential equation on is an equation for an unknown function (or , or ) such that:
- at least one partial derivative of appears in it, and
- at least one integral of , or of a derivative of , with respect to one or more of the variables appears in it.
A typical linear form is with given coefficients , kernel and right side .
Remarks
Example: let be even and integrable, and consider on . Write . Then is a solution, because for even .
Non-example: the heat equation contains no integral of , so it fails clause 2 and is a partial differential equation. The equation has an unknown of one variable only, so it is an integro-differential equation but not a partial one.
