Definition

Let (X,๐’ชX)(X, \mathcal{O}_X) be a ringed space. An invertible sheaf on XX is a sheaf of ๐’ชX\mathcal{O}_X-modules โ„’\mathcal{L} with the following property. Every point of XX has an open neighbourhood UU such that โ„’โˆฃUโ‰…๐’ชXโˆฃU\mathcal{L}|_U \cong \mathcal{O}_X|_U as ๐’ชU\mathcal{O}_U-modules.

Remarks

The structure sheaf ๐’ชX\mathcal{O}_X is invertible, with U=XU = X for every point. On X=๐”ธk2=Specโกk[x,y]X = \mathbb{A}^2_k = \operatorname{Spec} k[x, y] over a field kk, the ideal sheaf โ„\mathcal{I} of the origin, given by the ideal (x,y)(x, y), is not invertible. Its stalk at the origin is the maximal ideal of k[x,y](x,y)k[x, y]_{(x, y)}, which needs two generators, so it is not free of rank 11. In other words, an invertible sheaf is a locally free sheaf of rank 11. For invertible sheaves โ„’\mathcal{L} and โ„ณ\mathcal{M}, the tensor product โ„’โŠ—๐’ชXโ„ณ\mathcal{L} \otimes_{\mathcal{O}_X} \mathcal{M} is invertible. The dual โ„’โˆจ=โ„‹om(โ„’,๐’ชX)\mathcal{L}^\vee = \mathcal{H}om(\mathcal{L}, \mathcal{O}_X) satisfies โ„’โŠ—โ„’โˆจโ‰…๐’ชX\mathcal{L} \otimes \mathcal{L}^\vee \cong \mathcal{O}_X, which explains the name.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
