Jensen's functional equation
Builds on Functional equationFunction
Definition
Jensen's functional equation is the functional equation for an unknown function . A solution is called a Jensen function.
Remarks
Example: is a solution, since both sides equal . Non-example: is not a solution, since the right side minus the left side is , which is positive for . If is a solution, then satisfies and then . So the solutions are with an additive function and . The same equation makes sense for functions on a real interval or on a convex subset of a vector space.
