Kantorovich polynomials
Definition
Let be Lebesgue integrable and let be an integer. The Kantorovich polynomial of degree of is
Remarks
Let and let be the Bernstein polynomial operator of degree . Then , by the formula for the derivative of a Bernstein polynomial. Each is a positive linear operator. For with , in the norm, and for continuous the convergence is uniform.
Example: for , the integral over is . Hence , which tends to .
Non-example: the Bernstein polynomial is not a Kantorovich polynomial. It uses the point values , so it changes when is changed on the null set , while does not.
