Kelvin transform

Summary

The Kelvin transform turns a function uu on a region of ℝn∖{0}\R^n \setminus \set{0} into the function x↦∣x∣2−nu(x/∣x∣2)x \mapsto \abs{x}^{2-n} u(x / \abs{x}^2) on the inverted region. It sends harmonic functions to harmonic functions, and it exchanges the neighbourhoods of 00 and of infinity. It is the main tool to study harmonic functions near infinity, exterior Dirichlet problems and the Green's function of a ball. In the plane it is just composition with the inversion z↦1/zˉz \mapsto 1/\bar z.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
