Definition
Let and, for , let be its inversion in the unit sphere. Let be an open set and let . The Kelvin transform of a function is the function given by
Remarks
The map is an involution, so and . For , is the composition with the inversion in the unit circle, . For twice continuously differentiable, , where is the Laplacian; so is harmonic on if and only if is harmonic on . Example: in , , which is harmonic on , as a derivative of a harmonic function. Non-example: without the weight, is not harmonic on ; a direct computation gives . The transform turns the behaviour of near infinity into the behaviour of near . For instance, let and let be harmonic outside a ball; then at infinity if and only if has a removable singularity at . Inversion in a sphere of centre and radius gives the analogous transform .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
