Partial derivative

Builds on Function of several variables

Summary

A partial derivative of a function of several variables is its derivative with respect to one variable, while all other variables stay fixed. It measures the rate of change of the function along one coordinate axis. For f(x,y)=x2yf(x, y) = x^2 y, the partial derivatives are ∂f/∂x=2xy\partial f / \partial x = 2xy and ∂f/∂y=x2\partial f / \partial y = x^2.

What this page needs for W2

  • edge instance_of in: at least two examples (0 of 2)
  • edge not_instance_of in: at least one non-example (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
